Buttons for self-grading words gone?

FatDragon   June 3rd, 2011 8:51p.m.

I can't seem to find the buttons for self-grading words anymore - instead the grade "don't know" "so-so" "got it" etc. flashes and then fades out. I typically self-grade words with those buttons all the time, particularly when I definitely know the characters but have a hard time with the word that is a compound of those characters.

So is that gone now, or did I just experience a glitch? If it's gone, is there an alternative that doesn't involve marking the characters wrong to indicate that I missed the words?

You can double check to see that you've still got them turned on: from the study screen click "settings" and look: is the box "Use grading buttons" checked?

same for me. button also gone.

FatDragon   June 3rd, 2011 9:07p.m.

Different buttons, Nicki - I'm talking about the little red, yellow, green, or blue circle that used to show up next to the prompts, outside of the study box. My grading buttons inside the study box are working fine, but I can't grade a word as a whole now, only individual characters, which is a big problem for me. For example, I just studied the writing for 看透, and I thought it was supposed to be 透看, so I needed to grade myself wrong for the word, but I got the characters just fine, so I don't want to mess up my SRS stats by marking the characters themselves wrong.

Ahh, I see what you mean. Mine are gone too :(

I will fix it tomorrow. I don't know what happened, but I uploaded a ton of changes today and didn't notice that they were gone until you mentioned it! Thanks for the heads up.

Funny, I knew something was different but I couldn't reconstruct exactly what. Some mnemonics have disappeared also, maybe just the ones for a single character as a part of a word? They can be seen with the magnifying glass but are not displayed in the practice window.

Thanks in advance for recovering these things, Nick.

Maybe it's just me but I think the grading buttons have gone missing again.

nick   July 15th, 2011 2:53p.m.

sarac, I've still got mine, and we haven't changed anything around there recently. Is anyone else seeing this? sarac, do you see it in all browsers?

sarac   July 15th, 2011 7:09p.m.

Nick -
Now I see - I was practicing without my tablet so I was just "drawing" the characters in my head and using the "show" button to see it and in that mode the buttons are not available. Just now I am actually drawing the characters and I do get the buttons. I guess there's a reason to allow only got-it/forgot when using the "show" button but it escapes me at the moment.

I'll put it on my list to try out having those show up when you press the show button, too.

quick question, when I grade words as too easy on reading and definition, this doesn't have any influence on the scheduling of these words at writing, right?
The writing sometimes doesn't seem to come up quickly.

nick   July 20th, 2011 3:38p.m.

It pushes the writing part back if it's scheduled too close, so that there won't be interference, but it doesn't affect the interval beyond that.
