When I add a new word and the word is not already in the dictionary and one or more of the characters has alternative pinyins I see something that looks like this:

鸡肉炒刀削面

ji1 - rou4 - chao3 - dao1 - xiao1, xue1 - mian4

I then have to type in the following to make sure that the word is entered.

ji1rou4chao3dao1xiao1mian4

Since only one of the characters has an alternate pinyin is there anyway that we could have it where we -only- have to pick which of the alternate pinyins is the right one?

There'll be occasions you'll need to type pinyin/tones which aren't regular, and Skritter wont suggest them correctly.

And it's not that much typing!

Because it costs a lot more for us to fix and check mistakes after the fact, we do like it when you pay more attention to getting the pinyin right when you add new words. The more automatic that we've tried it in the past, the worse pinyins we've gotten. And if we have an excuse to get you to type it in manually, sometimes you'll put spaces in there between different "words" in the word, which is nice.
