Studying beyond what's due

LaughingHorseman   December 7th, 2010 2:04a.m.

Unfortunately, I could not enroll at Ghent University and will need to do this next September. The good thing is, I can prepare and learn most if not all of the characters I need to know.

Yesterday, I practiced almost for five hours although at some point the counter said there were no words due for review. I hoped / expected that this may influence the number of reviews due this morning, still there are some 163... What did I misunderstand here?

In my experience, long Skritter sessions lead to more items for review unless:

- you're not adding any new items
- you're getting everything right

I'm guessing over five hours you would have added many new items and got quite a few wrong, so these are now up for review.

This is one of the reasons I try to stick to short, sustainable sessions. The other reason is that I'm a bit lazy. I should probably put in a five hour session myself.

Thanks for your reply.

My list: Old Hsk 1. On 15 November, I had reached 810, but started anew as of 1 December and am reviewing some 30, 60 or maybe even more each day. My plan is to finish this list by the end of the month. I am adding a new section of the list for each new session.

Current position:: 510 and counting.
Overall retention: 96%

This time, I am also actively studying the tones.
