Using writing tablet on demo

Lasse   November 27th, 2011 5:03a.m.

I just bought a writing tablet (Penpower Jr.) and I can write Chinese characters on Word etc. but I cannot use the writing tablet on Skritter Demo. I can use the laptop trackpad OK but writing tablet does not work on Skritter.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

I had a quick google, and if you put it in mouse mode, then it should work.

However, the device's primary usage seems to be a handwriting recogniser with its own software etc. I think you'll find most people here are using graphics/drawing tablets. These are larger and map to the screen (in contrast to mouse mode, where the position of the pen has no bearing to the position of the character when physically writing it). The Wacom Bamboo Pen is popular.

Thanks Byzanti, but the mouse mode didn't seem to make a difference.

I am in China, bought the Made-in-China device for Chinese writing and Skritter web site says "any peripheral you want" so I thought there would be no problem but I guess I better go back tomorrow to the shop to check other options.

Sorry to hear that it's not working, Lasse. Some of those tablets just intercept all mouse cursor action and turn it into full-screen handwriting input, so there's no way for Skritter to interpret the mouse data into strokes.

I went to the computer shop and changed the tablet. Skritter works just fine now.

The tablet I bought is Hanvon HWpen.
