Game in Chinese

In case anyone's interested, I spotted Final Fantasy III on the app store. It runs in both simplified and traditional Chinese, as well as English and some other languages (language is chosen based on what language your ipod/iphone is running in).

Downside is it's probably the most expensive game on the whole app store.

I wonder what all of the weird item and character names are like.

Have you tried it? Is it a decent translation?

I play some games in chinese. It's only useful when its mostly reading stuff and not too much fighting crap because for fighting you can not focus too much on the meaning of the words and still do okay. Plot based stuff obviously requires a lot of comprehension and I find it useful.

Note that mainland chinese and Taiwan translation are usually VERY different (I'm not talking about the simp/trad, but also the wording/name used).

All the translation are quite recent (Taiwanese people are used to play these in Japanese) and well done IMO.

I play Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI all the time. Not only is there no game as incredible or indepth in strategy as it for English speakers but there is a ton of conversation and other practice(which you could just click through).

Even I bought it in Shanghai I could only get the traditional version. Mainlanders who claimed to be able to read traditional couldn't understand it though and said the Chinese is 'weird' but Taiwanese think its completely normal though. I have to say it will steal your life and take 100's of hours to play, so be careful........................................... If you like Dynasty Warriors and Civilization you'd love it!

@dfoxworthy, Oh Dynasty Warriors how I miss thee!

You know what I would like? Rogue. In Chinese. Oh the dreams I dream....

Byzanti   November 15th, 2011 7:22p.m.

Did get it in the end, and while I'm not in a good position to judge the merits of the translation, it seems pretty decent to me! Learnt some new vocab too.

There seems a good enough amount of dialogue, although there is also a fair amount of fighting also. 50/50 at the moment?
