New Practical Chinese Reader version?

Grahameh   May 30th, 2011 9:20p.m.

I'm working through this Volume 2 but suddenly getting words popping up supposedly from Ch16 which aren't in the book. Does anyone know if the list is based on an older edition?

I've just checked with my copy of NPCR and the words for Ch16 are all correct. Judging from the Characters in the info pages at the beginning, I'd say the printing of my book was done August 2009, the 15th edition (or at least print cycle).

When going through the NPCR vocab list, I found it a little confusing at first (I thought the word list was wrong), and then annoying, that the "Supplementary Words" are in the list as if they are no different to the "New Words". I then realised there wasn't really another way to provide the Supplementary Words. However the only way to remove them if you don't want to study them, is to wait until after you have seen them, go to the word list, and then manually remove them. Very annoying if you don't want to study them.

I also have the 2009 edition and it matches the list provided by Skritter. I have nearly finished Volume 3 and have been notifying the 小伙子 of the odd errors I have come across so they should be fixed by the time time you get there.

Thanks for that - I think it must have been the Supplementary words which confused me. I thought I knew most of the words from Book two when all of a sudden words from Ch 16 started popping up which I didn't recall ever seeing in the book, but I finally found them in the Supplementary Words.I guess I had just skipped through Ch 16 without doing all the exercises.

stimut, there's another way to do the Supplementary Vocab that we like to do, which is to put them in separate sections, but in the same order. So you might have:
Lesson 1
Lesson 1 Supplementary
Lesson 2
Lesson 2 Supplementary
etc.

The advantage then is that you can use the "skip sections" feature to skip all supplementary sections.

We don't have the books on hand at the moment, but if someone were to remix the list and pull those supplementary words out into separate sections, we could make that the official list version instead of the current one.

I bought the 2nd edition here: http://www.chinazest.com/textbook/new-practical-chinese-reader/
Is yours the 1st edition?

Yes, I think so, although not totally sure. ali above mentions that the 2009 books match our lists.
