I have noticed that when writing a word made of more than one character Skritter pronounces the character tone before the correct tone of the character in the word. For example 时候。。you would hear shi2hou4, then shi2hou5.
I think when Skritter shows you a word you should only hear the correct tone for that word. Hearing the wrong tone first makes studying harder.
Anybody agree? You could always click on the icon next to the character to hear is tone by itself.

I agree. I've always thought when writing a word it should play the sounds based on the pinyin in the word rather than the first tone listed for the character.

I believe this has been discussed before, but don't remember the outcome.

The reason it says hou4 is because you wrote hou4, and hou4 is accepted as a correct answer in the Taiwanese style. It's a compromise because much fewer neutral tones are used in Taiwan, and it has the side effect of letting those full tones be pronounced and accepted. So it's not pronouncing the "wrong" tone, per se, so much as accepting an alternate answer.
