android vs web review queue

marchey   January 15th, 2015 6:06a.m.

I have bought a new smartphone last week with android 4.4 on it. On my previous phone I could not use the android app because I was still stuck with version 3.4

Using the app for a week I have the impression that the review queue algorithm is different. The words that I marked as wrong or so-so are repeated more often with the app than with the web version it seems. I must say that my review list is very big at the moment, but with the frequent repetition I had the feeling that I could finally control the list. This morning I am back to the web version and I get prompted with characters that are totally different from what I saw these last few days on the app. What is going on? Or is this just me imagining things?

Hey marchey, The review algorithm is slightly different and does tend to repeat overdue items more when they are marked less than right. This would definitely be more noticeable with larger review queues.

We can keep an open dialog about it, but in general the morning is the most likely time for you to see a bunch of new overdue items. The reason for this is that while sleeping things become more overdue, so when you wake up they move to the top of the queue. You can get an general idea of scheduled next items by viewing this page (select to sort by next):

I understand it. Actually I like this approach better. By repeating the items that were marked wrong or so-so more often I feel that my retention rate for those characters improves. Seems like a good way to address the leech problem.
