New custom list design issues

west316   December 8th, 2010 11:18a.m.

I have played around with the new custom list creation section a bit. Overall, it is a nice overhaul. It is much more intuitive.

A couple of small notes:

1) I noticed a glitch where I would enter a definition and then Skritter would still show the word on the list as still requiring a definition. When I saved that section of the list as a whole, it showed the definition I added.

2) Numbering the words for list making purposes might be useful. That way we could do a quick check to see if we are getting near the total number of items a list section is allowed. The first item we enter would have a 1 beside it. The second item a 2. It is also useful for cross referencing lists at times.

3)Sometimes, when I am adding a new section to the list, I get put right into a prompt to start adding words. Sometimes I don't.

4) (Serious Bug) This just happened. I am making this post as I make the list so I don't miss anything. My list as a whole just locked up. It is a list of words from a notebook I have from my time in China. Each section is labeled page 1, 2, etc. I can still access page 1, but several of them just show me a blank white page. The page labeled no name was originally page 4. If you click on it, it comes up, but instead of saying no name, it says page 4. That link does load, though. I had all of these words saved on an excel spreadsheet, so I am not out much time, but until you investigate that bug, that list is locked up.

Will look into 1 and 3. Gonna talk with Nick and George about 2. Number 4 I tested and can reproduce. Yeah that's messed up, no idea at the moment why. Will work on that one soon!

Being an alpha user is dangerous and exciting.

I wouldn't have it any other way Scott.

All of you at Skritter have done a nice job with this section redesign.

1 and 3 and 4 are fixed now I think. For 4, the underlying cause of it has been fixed but the resulting bad data is still there. To fix it, just click to edit all sections at once, arrange them however you want them, then click save. That will fix up the data on the backend. Anyone else who has this problem can do this as well.

It worked like a charm. Thanks Scott.

I have a problem with my custom list

http://www.skritter.com/vocab/list?list=agVza3JpdHIWCxINVm9jYWJMaXN0SW5mbxja8oAEDA

It currently says "Status: Reviewing Words From"; when I click on "Change Study Settings" it lets me change it to "Add" but doesn't change the status; it stays on "Reviewing Words From". Refreshing the page and practicing for a while both confirm that it is not adding words from that list.

P.S. I was finally able to restart the list from the Study page (http://www.skritter.com/practice ) by clicking on "Restart Adding".

I tried to reproduce the problem but was unable to. If it happens again, let it be and let me know and I'll take another look. Thanks!

@scott here's another one that has the same problem. I just tried it and it refuses to change to "Adding" from the "Change Study Settings" popup:

I've made a tweak, but I'm still not sure if I fixed it (the settings changes started working after a couple tries, before I could investigate thoroughly). If you see it again, let me know!

@scott seems to be fixed, thanks!
